Patient-centered Medical Homes: Primary Care or Beyond? Oncology Medical Home Models as an Emerging Concept

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) reported that 7,600 clinicians and 1,500 practices had already earned PCMH recognition at the end of 2010. And with the National Cancer Institute’s patient-centered cancer care research initiative, health plans are actively looking at how the PCMH concept can apply to oncology and other specialty treatment areas.
A 2011 Xcenda market survey revealed that 57% of payer respondents indicated active collaboration with oncologists to improve oncology-related care to their membership. And 48% were rewarding providers for their adherence to clinical pathways for oncology. What does collaboration imply?
